Instructions for submitting an abstract for the WGAAC meeting at the IAU GA, Hawaii, August 2015

If you are thinking of  attending the IAU General Assembly in Hawaii in August  (see http://astronomy2015.org/ ), I strongly encourage you to submit an abstract for a paper. Submitting an abstract does NOT commit you to attending or giving a talk, but it gives you the option of doing so, and gives the organising committee an idea of how many papers there are likely to be in each session. The deadline for submissions is 18 March, and if you have not submitted an abstract by then you will not be able to give a talk. You then have until 1 August to make a firm commitment, if you choose to do so, by registering.

Abstracts of talks will be published in the IAU Transactions.

There is also the possibility of applying for a grant to help fund your travel and expenses, but this will be considered only if you have already submitted an abstract as detailed below.

The arrangements for the IAU General Assembly are a little unusual in that the planned Cultural Astronomy meeting (i.e. the first science meeting of the WGAAC) will be a session of Division C (http://www.iau.org/science/scientific_bodies/divisions/C/ ), which is preferable to organising a "splinter meeting".

So if you are thinking you might like to give a talk, this is how you submit your abstract.

* go to http://astronomy2015.org/abstracts , read the rules, and then click on "submit your abstract" in green writing at the top of the page
* click on "create an account" and fill in the info (dont bother with any fields which aren't starred)
* when you eventually get to "submission type", click on "Division Meeting"
* enter your title and abstract
*In "presentation type", select either oral or poster, depending on your preference
*In "category" select "Division C"
* enter the rest of the info, agree to their legalese, and click "submit"
